Each clinician has her/his own style of conducting therapy. If you feel that the style of your therapist is not something that you are looking for, you can find a different clinician. When you make your first appointment ask the therapist if she is competent in your specific problem, and if it is not the case, ask her to refer you to a different clinician.
The number of sessions each client needs to see some improvement varies significantly depending on the type of the problem and other factors that are different for a specific case.
